Second Article
The perpetual remembrance (zikr-i müdâm) of Allah the Exalted is declared in honorable hadiths to be a means of nearness to Him.
O beloved! It must be known that the Most Noble Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) showed compassion to his community and announced that the remembrance of the Lord is the most venerable and delightful thing. Indeed, he has said in his honorable hadiths: "Whenever a group assembles in a gathering [228/b] and remembers Allah the Exalted, angels circle around them, and His mercy reaches them all. Peace and tranquility descend upon their hearts. Allah the Exalted mentions them among the spirits and angels who are in His presence.” And he has said: "Continue to remember Allah and recite the Quran. Indeed, they are a source of illuminating light for you on earth, and a beautiful remembrance in the heavens." And he has said: “Whoever attains to the love and taste of remembering Allah, Allah has loved him.” And he has said: “The Lord’s generosity to His servant is that He inspires him with his remembrance.” And he has said: "When one says ‘La ilaha illallah,’ the veil is lifted from his heart."
And he has said: “Every thing has a polish; and the polish of the heart is remembering Allah.” And he has said: “The remembrance which Allah the Exalted mentioned as ‘the greatest remembrance’ is the remembrance promised to you with the words, ‘Remember Me, so that I may remember you.’ For your remembrance of Him is greater, more beautiful, more complete, and most perfect than His (remembrance) of you.”
And he has said: “Indeed, Satan places his nose upon the heart of Adam’s descendants. But when they remember Allah the Exalted, he turns back and flees. And if they forget Him, he tears their hearts to pieces.” And he has said: "Let one of you remember Allah so much that people consider him mad."
And he has said: “There is no charity superior to remembrance of Allah.” And he has said: “Distributing gold and silver as charity, fighting and killing enemies, all virtuous deeds – none of them are more beneficial to you and elevate your degrees than remembering Allah.” And he has said: "The likeness of one who remembers his Lord and one who does not is like the likeness of a living person and a dead person." And he has said: “No deed is more liberating to a person than remembering Allah.”
And he has said: “If someone fills his pocket with money and distributes it to the poor, and another occupies himself with the remembrance of Allah; in the sight of Allah, the one who remembers Allah is more valuable than the distributor of charity.” And he has said: "If you come upon gardens of paradise, take advantage of them. Those gardens are gatherings where Allah is remembered." And he has said: “If a group sits in a gathering and does not remember Allah, then they disperse like a scattering from a carcass. That gathering will be no use to them on the Day of Resurrection.” And he has said: "The people of paradise feel no regret. They only regret wasting their time without remembering Allah."
And he has said: “Whoever performs the morning prayer in congregation and remembers Allah until sunrise, then performs two rak'ahs of prayer, is rewarded with a complete Hajj and Umrah.” And he has said: "It does not behoove me to be occupied with remembrance of Allah after the morning prayer until sunrise, nor to be occupied with the remembrance of Allah after the afternoon prayer until sunset." And he has said: “One of the five words that the Lord commanded Yahya (peace be upon him) to command the Children of Israel was remembering Allah.”
And he has said: "The likeness of one who remembers the Lord is like a person being pursued by enemies intending to kill him, and just as they are about to reach him, he enters a strong fortress and finds safety from his enemies. Similarly, a Muslim can only protect himself from Satan through remembrance of Allah.”
Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessings upon him) spoke truthfully. That is, the phrase “La ilaha illallah” is the Lord's fortress; whoever repeats it from the heart and soul and speaks it frequently, escapes being preoccupied by things that divert him from Allah (mâsivâ), and finds the assembly of nearness (üns).
Verse
1-If you separate yourself from the world with your heart,
You remember God with presence and delight.
2-If you pass beyond this thorn of existence and essence,
You experience bliss within the rose garden.
3-If grief and sorrow of love appear in the tongue,
From its breath, you find a cure for all ills.
4-If you attain the light of eternal love,
You make the depths of your chest an abode of eternity.
5-If you know your essence within the ocean of meaning,
You assign a beautiful price to it in the world.
6-If you find the sweetness of the water of life’s purification,
You constantly polish the power of the heart.
7-If the stations of desire have been cut off from God!
You make your station the abode of Majesty.
Modern Turkish Translation:
1-If you separate the world from your heart, you remember God with presence and delight.
2-If you pass beyond this thorn of "how and why," you experience bliss in the rose garden.
3-If grief and sorrow of love appear on the tongue, from its breath, you find a cure for all ills.
4-If you attain the light of eternal love, you make the depths of your chest an abode of eternity.
5-If you know your essence within the ocean of meaning, you assign a beautiful price to it in the world.
6-If you find the sweetness of the water of life’s purification, you constantly polish the grief of the heart.
7-If the desire to reach the stations of desire has been cut off from God! You make your station the abode of His Majesty.
