VOLUME 2 – 161 – CRYING DURING PRAYER

Muṭarrif, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated from his father, who said:
I saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, praying, and there was a sound like the groan of a millstone on his chest from his weeping. [43]
**EXPLANATION:**
*Ezīzū’r-Rūḥa:* This refers to the groaning or humming of a millstone.
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would weep during prayer due to the feelings arising from the inner realm of divine love; his weeping was a groan that came from within and was audible to those nearby. Sometimes, it sounded like the bubbling of a small pot.
This honorable hadith is evidence that the weeping of one who weeps out of fear of Allah in prayer does not invalidate their prayer.
