Concerning the effects and benefits of surrender (tafwīz) and acceptance.
O, esteemed one! Know that the friends of God have said: The second of the four impediments preventing the servant's heart from the Presence of God is the dangerous thoughts (ahtār) that fall upon his heart concerning them, and acting upon them willingly. Yet, the remedy for having a sufficient amount of these within the person lies in entrusting matters to God (tafwīz). As this matter was explained in the preceding articles. Therefore, it has been deemed necessary for tafwīz for he who thoughtfully considers every affair and takes precautions (müdebbir) for two reasons:
Firstly, that the heart may find tranquility in that state and the nafs attain peace. For when affairs begin to appear dangerous and take on a complex form, their deficiency and soundness become indistinguishable, and the heart is afflicted by this, the nafs remains bewildered. The heart becomes confused, unable to discern what is good and what is bad. Thus, if one entrusts all his affairs to the True One, he knows that as a result of this action, nothing but goodness and benefit will befall him. He will be safe from every sorrow and calamity in every situation, secure from every fear and danger. His heart finds tranquility and his nafs peace. Indeed, this state of trust, certainty, security, and peace within the human being is a form of boundless wealth. Our Shaykh (may God have mercy upon him) said: “Entrust the management of affairs to God so that you may be at ease and secure.”
Secondly, it is the good and benefit obtained as a consequence of what is done. For the outcome of no affair is known beforehand or unveiled to its owner (mubhem). For how much evil appears like goodness, and how much goodness appears like evil! How many poisons are contained within a honeyed vessel. For the human intellect cannot know how affairs will conclude nor can it grasp the secrets of events. Were humans to desire that things occur exactly as they wish, acting and judging with their own will and doing whatever they please, destruction would come about very quickly. But humans do not know this, they remain deceived. If a person entrusts his affairs to God and is content with His decree, he shall only encounter safety and goodness; he shall find good and attain salvation. As God has narrated the words of His righteous servants, saying: “I surrender my matter to God.” (Mu’min, 40:44), and through the word of the servant, "God protected him from the plot they devised." (Mu’min, 40:45), He announces His support and assistance to the servant.
The meaning of tafwīz is that the servant leaves complex (perilous) affairs to God, the One who governs the universe, knows all the needs of His creation, disciplines everything and everyone, and possesses the power to choose whatever He wills as He pleases (fail-i muhtar). The fortress of tafwīz is remembering that a day will come when the negative aspects and dangers in complex affairs will perish and disappear. And the fortress of this fortress is understanding the servant’s impotence in protecting himself from all dangers. In this way, the servant protects himself from the dangers that may befall him due to ignorance, heedlessness, and impotence. It has been deemed essential to keep these two fortresses in mind so that tafwīz may be required in all affairs, causing one to remember these justifications before reaching a judgment, and prompting him to refrain from desiring things unconditionally good and beneficial.
Although nothing is obligatory upon God, His divine custom proceeds such that He bestows the most beautiful upon the servant who entrusts his affairs to Him, not merely something good. Indeed, He decreed for His beloved Prophet (peace be upon him) and those with him to sleep until sunrise, so that the time of night prayer and morning prayer passed over them. Again, He decreed for many servants wealth and various blessings in this world, whereas poverty is more excellent. And again, He decreed for other servants preoccupation with their family and children, whereas solitude is more virtuous. For the Lord of the worlds knows every state of His servants and observes them. He is a trainer and helper to each servant, urging him toward what is beautiful and beneficial. Just as a skilled physician sometimes heals a patient with barley water. Although sweeter and more pleasing flavors like sugar and honey would be preferable, healing comes from barley water. Therefore, the physician gives it to the patient. Similarly, the purpose of God, Lord of the worlds, in training the servant is to deliver him from dangers and bring him to safety; not to cause his corruption or destruction. From these explanations, it has become clear that salvation and peace are only possible through surrender and tafwīz.
[Poem]
1-Some desire hope, some fear,
Yet wisdom arises beyond all appearance.
2-What does the scholar do? He creates pain,
While ignorance produces a remedy for it.
3-There is no end to learning without surrender,
Until wisdom and discernment arise within you.
4-In this world, things depart and arrive,
And they remain as they are destined to be.
5-Do not speak frivolously,
Accept what the All-Knowing shows you.
6-Speak not in vain, be content with God’s decree.
7-The foolish saw a magician at work,
He said, "Engrave everything; it is all magic."
8-The magician said, “In this form,
You are committing an imperfection, take heed.”
9-Engrave within your sight,
That from there, you may proceed straight.
10-My engraving comes forth as benefit,
Like a straight path from truth.
11-Remove frivolity from the midst,
The ear of the deaf is upon the head of deafness.
12-With good and evil, do what is good,
Whatever He does, no one else can do.
13-There is within God a sea of noble essence,
Within the span of subtle, crafted judgment.
14-He who is a soul of sorrow knows,
Okay, here's the translation of the provided text, aiming for faithfulness and preserving meaning within a classical Islamic/Sufi context:
Choose hope or fear; the Wise One, God, created nothing in vain.
He is the Knower, knowing what He does and will do.
There is nothing more beautiful than submitting to His knowledge; through this you attain understanding of His wisdom and justice.
In the world, all that goes, comes, and exists, is as it should be.
Do not deem things appearing in the midst as superfluous. Witness His decree and accept it.
You have become entangled in idle words. Be content with God’s divine providence.
A foolish man saw a camel grazing, its form entirely crooked. He asked, "Why is it so?"
The camel replied: “Are you rebuking the Maker in this arrangement?” Use your reason.
Do not look at the crookedness of my creation! Ask me to walk straight.
My creation was thus ordained. Straightness comes from the curve of the bow.
Cease your frivolous talk! The donkey’s ear is fitting for the donkey's head.
Only goodness proceeds from you; no one can do what He has done.
The Exalted One, for the noble soul, decrees this beautiful creation,
The learned know that whatever God does is for His own good.
A name of ugliness and a name of beauty are yours. For everything coming from Him is inherently good.
Evil does not come from within His essence. Is it fitting that God should do evil?
From our mothers to us: both bloodletting is beneficial, and also dates (delicious sustenance).
In the eyes of those who possess wisdom, both good and bad are supremely good; for no ill comes from Him.
