Article Six:
Concerning the etiquette and proper conduct of a man in jesting with his wife and intimacy with her.
O, esteemed one! Know that [Islam encompasses every aspect of human life with compassion, teaching believers the method of performing all matters with gracefulness. Therefore, the manners and protocols for a Muslim's intimacy (conjugal relations) with his wife have also been declared by scholars, drawn from the blessed sunna of our Prophet. Since every action of a Muslim has a place in religion; possessing a corresponding status such as lawful, unlawful, disliked, or recommended – it is certainly necessary to learn and teach these detailed rulings in due time. For this purpose, one should consult compendiums of Islamic law—especially those pertaining to family matters.
The Muslim should approach his wife at suitable times, with her consent, reciting the blessing (Bismillah), and if possible, in a state of ritual purity. The blessed gift of intimacy between husband and wife, like two halves of an apple completing each other, should also be adorned with subtle refinements that lead to tranquility of both body and soul.] He should amuse himself with his wife, causing her heart to find pleasure. For this lightens the body, grants modesty to the soul, and comforts the spirit.
After intimacy, he should relieve himself, even if only three drops, so that any residue remains in the bladder, lest these remnants become a cause of an incurable illness. Then, for the comfort of the body, he should lie on his right side and fall into a light sleep. During her menstrual period, to diminish desire, he should have her wear old clothes or request she refrain from adornment. [377/a]
A poet passed by a group of women and said:

*Inne’n-nisâ’e şeyâtînu hulikne lenâ*
*Ne‘ûzu bi’llâhi min şerri’ş-şeyâtîni*
(Translation)
Women are jinn created for us. We seek refuge in Allah from the evil of the jinn.
A woman among them responded to him with this verse:

*İnne’n-nisâ’e reyâhînu hulikne lekum*
*Ve kullukum yeştehî şemme’r-reyâhîn*
(Translation)
Women are fragrant herbs created for you. You all delight in smelling the fragrant herbs.
