**Article One**
Explains the virtues of patience with verses and honorable sayings.
O esteemed one! Know that the Exalted has, through His grace, taught and encouraged patience to His servants, and has decreed in the Noble Quran:
“O you who believe! Be patient and steadfast, establishing prayer and fearing Allah. Indeed, it is those who are patient who will be rewarded.” (Al-Baqarah, 2/153) “Indeed, We shall test you with trials—with a little fear, hunger, loss of property, lives, and fruits—but give glad tidings to the steadfast!” (Al-Baqarah, 2/155-157). "Those who, when struck by calamity, say: ‘We are from Allah and to Him we shall return.’ These are those upon whom were [His] blessings and His mercy. And it is they who are the guided ones.” (Al-Baqarah, 2/157)
“And others [follow them] who say, “Our Lord, grant us favor and guidance from Your Mercy; and admit us into the company of the righteous.” (Ar-Ra’d, 13/22). "They give charity, expecting only Allah's countenance, and they do not fear [anything] for what they are doing." (Ar-Ra’d, 13/22) “These will have reward from their Lord, and they will be delighted.” (Ar-Ra’d, 13/24). "Those who are patient in the face of adversity, those are the ones who are truly steadfast; and these are the ones who possess taqwa." (Al-Baqarah, 2/177) “Indeed, Allah is with the patient.” (Al-Baqarah, 2/249). "Allah loves those who persevere." (Ali Imran, 3/146). "(O Muhammad!) Be patient. “Be patient! Your patience is only with the help of Allah.” (An-Nahl, 16/127) “Indeed, with hardship is ease. Indeed, with hardship is ease." (Ash-Sharh, 94/5-6). "Then [come] those who repent, and those who leave evil and believe and do righteous deeds. And for these are forgiveness from Allah and a reward great.” (Al-Baqarah, 2/177) “And after repentance comes patience; and the patient ones will be rewarded by their Lord without measure." (Zumar, 39/10).
"Be patient in your lord's command. Indeed, you are before our eyes." (Tur, 52/48). "Then [come] those who advise with the truth and establish patience.” (Al-Asr, 103/3)
And the Exalted has declared in a sacred hadith: “O Adam’s son! Whoever is not pleased with My decree, does not persevere through My trials, does not give thanks for My blessings, and does not content himself with what I have bestowed upon him, let him seek another Lord besides Me. O Adam’s son! Whoever perseveres in the face of hardship that has befallen him, he has been pleased with Me.” And the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has said: “O my community! Faith is of two kinds: one is patience, and the other is gratitude." "The best patience is that which is shown at the first encounter with calamity.” And he has said: "Patience is submission at the first moment of adversity.” He has also said: "Patience is the beginning of every obedience and the foundation for protection from all calamities.” And he has said: “Every act of worship begins with patience." And he has said: "Blessed is he who shows patience in times of tribulation.” And he has said: "He who does not show patience over a harsh word will hear many harsh words.”
And he has said: "The end of patience is victory.” And he has said: “Patience is a bitter medicine, but whoever takes it finds freedom." And he has said: "Persevering through trials is a means to attain certainty.” And he has said: "No one is more patient than Allah. He gives sustenance and health to those who slander His glorious being.” And he has said: “The beginning of patience is bitterness, its end is sweetness and delight." And he has said: "Patience is an attribute of Allah.” And he has said: "The head of faith is patience.” And he has said: "Faith is comprised of patience and generosity.” And he has said: "No one has been given a better gift than patience.” And he has said: “Patience comes from Allah, haste comes from Satan." And he has said: "Help comes with patience, and joy accompanies sorrow.” And he has said: "Whoever conceals a calamity that befalls his self or his property and does not complain to anyone, Allah will surely give him the pleasure of faith, bestow upon him respect among his brethren, and forgive all his sins." And he has said: “When Job (peace be upon him) was afflicted with illness and tormented by insects, every morning Allah would visit him without an intermediary and say, ‘O my beloved Job, how are you? How is it with you in the sweetness of My grace?’” Job (peace be upon him) would rejoice at the address of the Lord of Glory and forget the pain of patience. When Job (peace be upon him) began to feel that he was recovering, he became anxious, thinking that Allah would not speak to him anymore, and grieved over his affliction and said: “When the servants of the Patient One are rewarded for their patience on the Day of Resurrection, they will say: ‘O our Lord! Return us so that we may cut ourselves with scissors, endure the pain, and attain more than what we have attained.’”

Without me, no settlement is possible; the myrrh tree blossoms in my shade.

O flame-devouring Beloved, welcome and salutations!
O mortal of martyrdom, O pride of witnesses!
The earth becomes food, burning within the belly.
That food becomes a sweet soul; such is the quintessence of being.
Even if the soul perishes, let it read the manifest signs of non-existence.
Do not leave the soul in ignorance, O Compassionate One.
If the soul burns in the fire of love, it finds safety from the Fire [of Hell].
Through poverty and annihilation, it attains the state of eternal subsistence.
The lovers of God would reveal His secrets if they were like the Companions of the Cave—sometimes slumbering, sometimes awake.
