**Article One**

Seclusion is affirmed through verses of the Qur'an and sacred hadith.

O beloved! Know that the Exalted has, in mercy to His servants, announced that separation from people brings constant tranquility. Indeed, in His Ancient Word He says:

“O you who believe, be mindful of yourselves; if you keep righteous, those who are astray will not harm you.” (Ma’ida, 5/105) “Disregard them and rely upon Allah.” (Nisa, 4/81) “(O Prophet,) say, ‘I only call to Allah, and I am not a guide.’” (An'am, 6/91) "Do not incline towards those who commit injustice; otherwise, fire will touch you [in Hell]. You have no friend other than Him. Then you will find no help from Him.” (Hud, 11/113) “(One of them said,) if you have distanced yourselves from them and those they worship besides Allah, then take refuge in the cave, so that your Lord may extend His mercy to you and provide ease and benefit in your affair.” (Kahf, 18/16) “Keep company with those who sincerely supplicate their Lord, seeking His pleasure, and do not divert your gaze from them for the allure of worldly life. Do not submit to him who has been rendered heedless of remembering Us, who follows his desires excessively, and whose conduct is transgressive.” (Kahf, 18/28) “Now whoever hopes for an encounter with their Lord, let them work righteousness and join none as partners with their Lord in worship.” (Kahf, 18/110) "And turn away from them and supplicate your Lord. Perhaps you will not be wretched through supplication to your Lord." (Maryam, 19/48)

“(O people!) We have tested some of you with others; so will you persevere? Your Lord sees all things perfectly.” (Furqan, 25/20) “Do you think that most of them truly hear or understand? No! They are like cattle, even more astray than they are.” (Furqan, 25/44) "Indeed, they are my enemies; but the Lord of the worlds is my friend." (Shu'ara, 26/77) “And do not give countenance to those who deny their Lord and desire nothing but the worldly life.” (Najm, 53/29)

“And indeed, the final destination is your Lord.” (Najm, 53/42) "O you who believe! Your spouses and your children from among people may be enemies to you. So beware of them." (Taghabun, 64/14) “(O Prophet!) Say: I only supplicate to my Lord and join none as partners with Him.” (Jinn, 72/20) “Mention the name of your Lord and devote yourself purely to Him. He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no deity other than Him. So put your trust in Him. Endure what they say and part from them with graciousness." (Muzzammil, 73/8-10)

In a sacred hadith it is said: “O Adam’s son! I am astonished at you seeking companionship while you know well that you enter the grave alone.” "O Adam's son! Be like a lamp which burns itself to illuminate others." “O Adam’s son! How can you seek communion with Me while you are engaged in companionship with people? Seek meeting with Me in solitude.” “O Adam’s son! If your companions could perceive the scent of your sins, they would never sit with you. But I am the Concealer [of faults] and the Gentle [in temperament].” "O Adam's son! If people knew your sins, not one of them would speak to you. But I am the Forgiver and the Most Merciful.”

Poem:

1- Tranquility, O my brothers, is in my solitude,

And all affliction lies in association.

2- Every time I have befriended a group for a duration,

They belittle me, find fault with me, and diminish my worth.

3- I have not found among them a sincere friend,

Who preserves friendship and respects honor.

4- My separation from them is not due to their contempt;

Rather, it is because I see dignity in seclusion.
