VOLUME 2 – 155 – PROSTRATING LIMBS

According to the narration of Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "I was commanded to prostrate upon seven [parts] and to avoid having clothing and hair entangled in the prostration."
Hammad narrates: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “It was commanded.”

It is narrated from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “I was commanded to prostrate upon seven limbs.” At times, he also said, “(I was) commanded to prostrate upon seven limbs as your Prophet.”

– From Abbas bin Abdulmuttalib, may Allah be pleased with him:
He heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say:
“When a servant prostrates, seven limbs prostrate along with his face: his forehead, his palms, his knees, and ankles.”

It is narrated from Ibn Umar with a marfūʿ chain of narration that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Just as the face prostrates, so too do the hands. When one of you places his face on the ground, he should place his hands [on the ground]. And when he raises his face, he should raise his hands.”
