Volume 2 – 152 – Supplications in Bowing and Prostration
It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “The slave’s closest moment to his Lord is during prostration. So increase supplication therein.”
From Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him:
– The people were standing in rows behind Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him.
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, lifted the curtain and said:
“O people, there remains nothing but the glad tidings of prophethood that a Muslim will see or a righteous dream that will be seen to him. I have been forbidden from reciting during rukūʿ and prostration. Honor your Lord in rukūʿ, strive in supplication in prostration, for supplication in prostration is likely to be answered.” [27]
Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) would frequently say in his bowing and prostration:
“Glory to You, O Allah, our Lord! And praise be to You, O Allah! Forgive me, O my Lord!”
He conformed to the Qur’an. [28]
*Explanation:*
"Yeteevvelü'l-Qur'an" means he would do what the Qur’an commands. It signifies that he would adhere to the injunctions of the Qur’an.
The Surah "Nasr" states: “Exalt [Allah] with praises and ask Him for forgiveness; indeed, your Lord is ever-Forgiving and Merciful.”
Whoever makes such glorification and seeks forgiveness in bowing and prostration, has conformed to this verse of the Qur'an.
From Abu Hurayra, may Allah be pleased with him:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would say in his prostration:
“O Lord! Forgive the great [of my sins], the small [of my sins], the first [of my sins], and the last [of my sins].”
(According to the narration of Ibn Sirin, he added) “[and forgive] its outward and inward aspects.”
Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated:
I could not find the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) one night (in bed). I touched the place of prostration and found him standing in prayer, his feet planted, saying: “I seek refuge in You from Your wrath to Your pleasure, from Your punishment to Your forgiveness, and I seek refuge in You in Yourself; I am unable to praise You as You praise Yourself.” [30]
