**Article One**
The importance of speaking little is demonstrated through verses from the Noble Qur’an and honorable hadith.
O beloved! Know that the Most High has revealed to humanity, through His grace, that silence is the custom of the saints, the order of worldly affairs, the key to salvation, and the cause of unending tranquility. Indeed, in His Eternal Word, He addresses His Beloved with the following:
“Tell My servants to speak only what is best.” (Isra, 17/53) “The servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth humbly and when an ignorant person insults them, they return [with] greeting.” (Furqan, 25/63) “(They) do not bear witness to falsehood, but when they pass by frivolous talk, they turn away from it with dignity.” (Furqan, 25/72) “They do not heed idle talk and say, ‘We are responsible for our deeds, and you are responsible for your deeds. Peace be upon you. We do not desire to associate with the ignorant.’" (Qasas, 28/55) "O you who believe! Let not a people ridicule another people; perhaps they are better than them. And let not women ridicule other women; perhaps they are better than them. Do not defame yourselves or call each other by offensive nicknames. How evil is arrogance and falsehood after faith! But whoever does not repent, then surely they are the wrongdoers.” (Hujurat, 49/11) "Therefore do not purify yourselves; for He knows best who fears [Him]." (Najm, 53/32)
“O you who believe! Beware of much suspicion, for indeed some suspicion is a sin. And do not spy upon one another; nor backbite or slander one another in their absence. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? Indeed, you detest it. So fear Allah.” (Hujurat, 49/12) “No person speaks except that there is a recording angel present, ready to note it down.” (Kaf, 50/18) "Release the orphan from oppression, and do not scorn the beggar. Remember your Lord with gratitude and praise." (Duha, 93/9-11)
In a Sacred Hadith, it is stated: “O Adam! When you find hardness in your heart, sickness in your body, and restriction in your provision, know that you have spoken useless things.” O Adam! How can you seek wisdom while speaking so much? Seek wisdom in the silence of your heart and tongue." "O Adam! Absolutely avoid backbiting. For the value of one who abstains from backbiting becomes known, and his love for others is manifested according to his worth.” “O Adam! Your religion will not be sound unless your tongue is sound. Your tongue will not be sound unless your heart is sound. You will not attain modesty from Me unless your heart is sound."
The Most Noble Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) protected his community with compassion, revealing that speaking little prevents sin, leads to fulfillment of purpose, fosters friendship among people, and safeguards spiritual secrets. Indeed, in some honorable hadith, he said:
“A person’s salvation lies in guarding his tongue.” And he said: “If you must speak, speak the truth; otherwise, be silent.” And he said: "Among all limbs, the tongue is smallest in size, yet it carries the greatest sin. It has much mischief and fault." And he said: "The one who remains silent is safe from every affliction.” And he said: “The liar is afflicted with ruin and loss.” And he said: “Falsehood in the tongue leads to distance from faith. The worst of falsehoods is slander (fabrication)."
And he said: "To speak more than what is in a dream is to falsely attribute words to Allah." And he said: "The most vile of speech is backbiting. It is more forbidden in Islam than thirty acts of adultery. A believer always helps the one who is being backbitten.” And he said: “A believer does not insult, abuse, or curse. He is not indecent. Whoever insults people will not die until his own disgrace befalls him." And he said: "Recite the Qur’an with the eloquence of Arabs [its original pronunciation]. Abandon the manner of recitation of the heretics.” And he said: “A good word is charity. A smile is an act of kindness.” And he said: "Giving food, standing for night prayer, and speaking a good word earn one the pleasure of Allah."
And he said: "The purity of the heart is completed by two qualities: giving in abundance from one’s wealth, and fulfilling what one speaks.”
And he said: “Excessive laughter kills the heart.” And he said: “When an evildoer is praised, Allah hates it, and the Exalted Throne trembles." And he said: "When you praise a believer in his face, you cut him with a sharp sword.” And he said: "A person does not attain the truth of faith unless he controls his tongue. By Allah, there is nothing more deserving of imprisonment than the tongue." And he said: “The silence of the tongue is a distinguished wisdom that few are able to achieve.” And he said: “Do not multiply speech except in remembrance of Allah, for it hardens the heart. But a hardened heart is far from Allah and disobedient.” And he said: "May blessings be upon those who fulfill their needs privately and withdraw from people."
And he said: “We were commanded by Allah to speak to people according to their understanding.” And he said: "When you speak to a people with words they do not understand, that speech causes confusion among most of them. So do not speak such words.” And he said: "Fitna [discord] is sleeping; whoever awakens it is cursed." “Revealing secrets and exposing them is forbidden, and the one who exposes them is greatly despised.” And he said: “
