Talha ibn Ubaydullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated:

A man from Najd, his hair disheveled and unkempt, came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him), his voice buzzing so that one could not understand what he was saying. He approached closely. It seemed he was inquiring about the conditions of Islam. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) said:

“You must pray five prayers in a day and night [twenty-four hours].”

The man from Najd said, “Are there any other obligatory prayers incumbent upon me besides these?”

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) said, “There are none; if you wish to perform supererogatory prayers.”

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) informed him about the fast of Ramadan. The man from Najd said, "Are there any other obligatory fasts incumbent upon me besides this?"

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) said, “There are none; if you wish to perform supererogatory fasts.”

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) informed him about zakat. The man from Najd said, "Is there anything else obligatory for me besides this?"

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) said, “There are none; if you wish to give it as supererogatory.”

The man turned around saying:

“I swear by Allah that I will not add to it nor diminish from it.”

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) said, "If he is truthful in his words, then he is saved."

From Abu Suhayl, Nafi ibn Malik ibn Abu Amr, may Allah be pleased with him:

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

“If one speaks truthfully, then by his father I bear witness that he is saved. And if one is truthful in his word, then by his father I bear witness that he will enter Paradise.” [271]
