294 – From ʿĀʾisha (may Allah be pleased with her): In the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), a woman saw excuse blood (istihāḍa). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded her: “To hasten the ʿAṣr (afternoon) prayer and delay the Ẓuhr (noon) prayer, and to perform ghusl (ritual bath) for both; to delay Maghrib (sunset) and bring ʿIshāʾ (night) forward, and to perform one ghusl for both; and to perform ghusl for the Fajr (dawn) prayer as well.” Shuʿba said: I asked ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, ‘Are you narrating this from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?’ He replied, ‘I do not narrate anything to you except from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).’ [225]

295 – It is narrated from ʿĀʾisha (may Allah be pleased with her): Sahl, the daughter of Suhayl, was afflicted with istihāḍa blood. She came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded her to perform ghusl for every prayer time. When performing ghusl for every prayer time became difficult for her, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded her to combine Ẓuhr and ʿAṣr with one ghusl, and Maghrib and ʿIshāʾ with one ghusl, and to perform a separate ghusl for Fajr. Abū Dāwūd said: I asked Ibn ʿUyayna, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Qāsim, from his father: A woman was afflicted with istihāḍa and asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about its ruling. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded her (to perform ghusl). He narrated the meaning of the previous hadith.

296 – From Asmāʾ bint ʿUmays (may Allah be pleased with her): I said to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), ‘O Messenger of Allah, Fāṭima bint Hubaysh has been afflicted with istihāḍa blood, and she has not prayed for such a long time.’ The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, ‘Subḥānallāh! This is from Shayṭān. Let her sit in a vessel containing water, and when she sees the yellowness on the surface of the water, let her perform one ghusl for Ẓuhr and ʿAṣr, one ghusl for Maghrib and ʿIshāʾ, and one ghusl for Fajr. Let her perform ablution (wuḍūʾ) between the prayers she combines.’ Abū Dāwūd said: This ḥadīth was narrated by Mujāhid from Ibn ʿAbbās. When it became difficult for Fāṭima bint Hubaysh to perform ghusl for every prayer, she was commanded to combine two prayers. Abū Dāwūd said: This ḥadīth was narrated by Ibrāhīm from Ibn ʿAbbās; this is the statement of Ibrāhīm, al-Nakhaʿī, and ʿAbdullāh ibn Shaddād.
