PURIFICATION SECTION · 76 – THE RULING ON EATING WHAT HAS BEEN COOKED OVER FIRE
194 – It is narrated from Abū Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Ablution (wudu) becomes necessary due to (eating) what has been cooked over fire.”
EXPLANATION
We have previously explained in earlier hadiths that eating cooked meat does not invalidate ablution. In this hadith, however, it is stated that ablution should be renewed after eating cooked meat. We can explain this issue from several perspectives.
1 – These hadiths, which state that cooked meat invalidates ablution, have been abrogated by the hadith of Jābir (no. 192).
2 – It means that it is recommended (mustahabb) for one who eats cooked meat to renew their ablution.
3 – What is meant by ablution here is washing the hands and mouth.
195 – From Abū Salama (may Allah be pleased with him): Abū Sufyān ibn Saʿīd ibn Mughīra informed him as follows: Abū Sufyān entered upon Umm Ḥabība (may Allah be pleased with her). Umm Ḥabība offered him roasted flour. Abū Sufyān asked for water and rinsed his mouth. Umm Ḥabība said to him: O son of my sister, will you not perform ablution? The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Perform ablution after (eating) what has been cooked over fire or what has touched fire." Abū Dāwūd said: In the hadith of al-Zuhrī, it is, "O son of my brother."
