The Virtue and Benefits of the Wisdom of the Saints
It is declared through verses of the Quran and blessed hadith regarding the virtue and benefits of the wisdom of the saints.
O esteemed one! Know that the Most High, by His grace, has announced His own wisdom to His servants, encouraging them to attain it and revealing the paths to acquire divine wisdom.
Indeed, in His eternal Word, He has commanded with generosity in various verses:
“He taught Adam the names of all things.” (Al-Baqarah 2/31)
"Allah grants wisdom to whom He wills. And for him to whom wisdom is granted, indeed, there is a great good. But only those of understanding remember." (Al-Baqarah 2/269)
“(They pray,) ‘Our Lord, set us straight and do not let our hearts deviate after you have guided us. Grant us Your mercy; You are the Giver.’” (Ali Imran 3/8)
“My Lord, You have granted me of power and taught me the interpretation of prophecies. O Creator of the heavens and the earth! You are my master in this world and in the Hereafter. Let me die as a Muslim and join me with the righteous.” (Yusuf 12/101)
“And We bestowed upon him [another] mercy from Us and [granted him] knowledge of the interpretation [of dreams].” (Al-Kahf 18/65)
"We gave Abraham guidance previously. And We knew him well." (Anbiya 21/51)
"Allah leads whom He wills by His light.” (Nur 24/35)
“Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in the best manner.” (Nahl 16/125)
“These are the verses of wisdom revealed to you from your Lord.” (Isra 17/39)
"Are those who know equal to those who do not know? Only those of understanding remember." (Zumar 39/9)
“Thus We gave Solomon knowledge. And We gave them both judgment and knowledge.” (Anbiya 21/79)
"Has not Allah found for [some] hearts, that they accept the message with gratitude? But only those who are wise remember." (Zumar 39/22)
“The Beneficent (Allah) taught the Qur’an, and He created man and taught him distinction [between right and wrong].” (Rahman 55/1-4)
"Read! [Let us mention] the name of your Lord, who created." (Al-Alaq 96/5)
“By the soul [and its development]! We have guided it to the path of either correction or downfall.” (Shams 91/7-8)
“Did We not expand for you your breast?” (Inshirah 94/1)
"Indeed, We have given you abundance." (Kawthar 108/1)
The Most High has declared in the sacred hadith:
“O Adam! Esoteric knowledge is a secret which I concealed from the common people and gave only to My chosen servants. For it is the result of My recognition, its ultimate point. O Adam! Adorn yourself with beautiful character and bring forth knowledge from your heart so that it may be guidance for you, and give you life [with true existence]. O Adam! How can you learn knowledge with a full stomach, and how can you attain wisdom through much speaking? Rather, you find knowledge in hunger and wisdom in silence. O Adam! I distribute My bounties to those who wake up early, and those who stand for worship. But you sleep at those times. Likewise, I distribute wisdom to those whose bellies are empty. But you are full. So how will you find these two precious treasures?”
And the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also revealed the path and its truth to teach his community with compassion and to let them taste the delight of knowledge. Indeed, in some of his blessed hadiths, he said: “Hazrat Khidr and Hazrat Musa (peace be upon them both) were on a ship when a bird landed near the side and drank water from the sea. Seeing this, Khidr (peace be upon him) said to Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him), ‘Indeed, Allah has taught me knowledge which you do not know, and He has taught you knowledge which I do not know.’ My knowledge and your knowledge are nothing in comparison to Allah’s knowledge. Rather, it is like the two drops of water that a bird takes from the sea.”
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever worships Allah sincerely for forty days, droplets of wisdom will begin to flow from his tongue." That is, whatever he speaks will be in accordance with the Book and the Sunnah, becoming wisdom. He also said: “Whoever acts according to what he knows, Allah inspires him with that which he does not know.”
And he said: "The heart of a believer is a source of wisdom." And he said: "Wisdom is a light in the heart." And he said: "The reward for wisdom is salvation." And he said: “What the believer desires is wisdom, and what the hypocrite desires is lust.” And he said: “Wisdom is the lost property of the believer; wherever he finds it, he takes it.” And he said: “The only capital of a wise person is wisdom.” And he said: "There are two kinds of knowledge. One is the outward knowledge of the Quran which is an argument and proof over Allah’s creation. The other is the inward knowledge of the Quran, which is the beneficial divine knowledge."
Rhyme
1. If the heart's knowledge is indeed Sufi wisdom,
Purify your heart, release the burden of formality.
2. Do not grieve for what is lost, do not desire it;
Value what exists, do not waste it needlessly.
3. Whoever sees two in this realm of manifestation,
Let him burn that one with the fire of regret.
4. Understand the true nature of eye and beloved;
In Zulaykha's eye was Yusuf’s beauty.
5. The light illuminated the world, truly;
The follower’s lamp extinguishes when he sees it.
6. The self-aware becomes a verifier in one breath;
When he draws closeness from the beloved, he receives grace.
7. If the heart is not a dwelling of divine knowledge,
Then what benefit is the study of esoteric teachings and the discourse on refinement?
5. The people of Truth illuminated the light of the world. The light of the imitator vanishes with a "puff."
6. The person of truth became discerning in a single breath, for a longing from the Beloved arrived within his heart.
7. If the heart is not a dwelling place of gnosis regarding Reality, what benefit is there in reading the chapter on Acquaintance in *The Unveiling of Knowledges*?
