SECTION ON PRAYER · 115 – THOSE WHO SAY NOTHING THAT PASSES IN FRONT INVALIDATES (THE PRAYER)
719 – It is narrated from Abū Saʿīd (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Nothing that passes in front of the prayer invalidates it. Strive to prevent, as much as you are able, anything from passing in front of you. Indeed, it is Shayṭān (Satan).”
720 – It is narrated from Abū’l-Waddāk (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: While Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī was performing prayer, a young man from Quraysh passed in front of him. Abū Saʿīd pushed him back. The young man tried to pass again, and Abū Saʿīd pushed him back again. This happened three times. When Abū Saʿīd finished his prayer, he said, “Nothing cuts off the prayer, but the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘Prevent, as much as you are able, anyone who wishes to pass in front of you. For indeed, it is Shayṭān (Satan).’” Abū Dāwūd said: If two reports from the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) appear to contradict each other, then after the death of the Messenger of God, one looks at which narration the noble Companions (ṣaḥāba) acted upon. (That is what is followed.)
