PRAYER SECTION · 122 – STARTING PRAYER WITH "SUBHANEKE"
Abū Saʻīd al-Hudrī, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would recite the takbīr when he stood up for night prayer, then say: “O Allah, I glorify You and praise You. Your name is exalted, and Your majesty is great. There is no deity except You.” Then he would repeat three times: “There is no deity except Allah.” And he would repeat three times: “Allah is mighty with worthy greatness.” He would seek refuge in Allah, the Knowing, the Hearing, from Satan and his evil, his pride, and his oppression.
Then he would begin reciting the Qur’an.
Abū Dāwūd said: The hadith scholars say that this hadith was transmitted through the chain of ʿAlī ibn ʿAlī and al-Ḥasan as mursal, and that the error in its being narrated as marfūʿ is attributable to Jāfir.
Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, said:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would say when he began the prayer: “O Allah, I glorify You and praise You. Your name is exalted, Your majesty is great. There is no deity except You.”
Abu Dawud said: This hadith is not known in the form that it is narrated from Abdus-Salam bin Harb.
No one narrates this hadith from Abdus-Salam except Talk bin Ghanem. A group of people narrated a story about prayer from Budayl, and they did not mention anything about supplication (du’a) in the prayer within it. [481]
