VOLUME 2 – 177 – LEANING ON A STAFF DURING PRAYER

Hilal ibn Yasaf, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated:
I arrived at Rakka. A friend of mine said to me, “Would you like to see a companion of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and become acquainted with him?”
I replied, "Seeing him would be a blessing for me." So we went to Wabisah, may Allah be pleased with him. I said to my friend, "Let us first observe his appearance.” And behold, he was leaning on a staff during prayer, wearing a sand-colored cloak of silk and a head covering that adhered closely to his head. After greeting him, we asked him: “What is this staff?” He replied:
“Mihsan bint Umm Kays informed me…”
He continued, "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, when he grew old and gained weight, had a pillar placed in the prayer area and leaned on it.”
