ABLUTION SECTION · 55 – Drawing water into the nose and blowing it out

140 – Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: "One of you should take water into his nose while performing ablution and then blow it out with his left hand.” [124]

EXPLANATION

Istinsar: It is to draw water into the nose and then blow it out.

Water is drawn into the nose with the right hand, and blown out with the index and middle fingers of the left hand.

Blowing out with the left hand is an act of propriety.

141 – It is narrated from Ibn ‘Abbās (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Draw water into your nose two or three times and blow it out (to cleanse it thoroughly).” [125]

142 – From Asim ibn Lakit ibn Sabre (may Allah be pleased with him): His father, Lakit ibn Sabre, narrated that he said: I was among the envoys of the Banu Muntafiq or among the envoys sent by the Banu Muntafiq to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). When we arrived at the home of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), we did not find him at home. We encountered Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), who ordered that a meat stew be prepared for us. It was immediately made. They brought us a dish filled with dates. (Qutaybah did not mention the dish of dates.) This refers to a dish containing dates.

Then, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Did you eat anything? Or was something said for you?” We replied, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." While we were sitting with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), a shepherd came with his sheep and a newly born lamb. The lamb was bleating. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “What did you give birth to, so-and-so?” (He mentioned the name of the shepherd). The shepherd said, "A lamb."

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) then commanded: “Then slaughter a sheep in its place.” Then he said: “Do not think that it is for you. We have one hundred sheep; we do not want them to decrease. Whenever a shepherd brings a newly born lamb, we slaughter a sheep in its place.”

I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have a family who speaks very bad language." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Then let her go.”

I said, "O Messenger of Allah, it has been a long time since I married her, and I have children by her.” He said: “Then command her.”

The narrator says: By the word “command,” he meant advising her to obey.

He said: “If she has good in her, she will accept your advice, and do not beat her like you beat your female slaves.” I said, "O Messenger of Allah, inform me about ablution." He said: “Perform your ablution completely, rinse between your fingers thoroughly, draw water into your nose abundantly, except when you are fasting.” [126]

EXPLANATION

Hazira: Meat is cut into thin slices, water is poured over it, flour is added after the meat is cooked, and it is simmered until the liquid thickens. This is what they call a meat stew in Anatolia.

Sahle: It means lamb.

Teyāru: It means bleating.

Bühme: It means a young sheep.

Beza: It means bad speech.

Zaina: It means woman.

Umayya: It is the tasgīr (diminutive) of the name Ummayya. It means a female slave girl.

This hadith instructs that a woman should be managed by ending some of her mistakes through advice. Great rights are granted to women, and it is forbidden to beat them. Adherence to family law is commanded. When a new lamb is born, a ewe sheep is slaughtered and distributed to the needy. It is presented as hospitality to guests. This also conveys that the poor and guests have a right in the property of those who own sheep. It is recommended that we draw water slightly more abundantly in the basin when we are not fasting.

143 – The envoy of the Banu Muntafiq, Asim ibn Lakit ibn Sabre (may Allah be pleased with him), narrated from his father, Lakit: The delegation of the Banu Muntafiq came to Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). He mentioned the meaning of the previous hadith. Without delay, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) arrived walking right and left, walking strongly. (Ibn Jurayj said in this narration “aside” instead of "hazira").

EXPLANATION

Yetekallau: He was walking strongly.

Yetekaffeu: He was walking swaying to the right and left.

In this narration, Ibn Jurayj said “aside” instead of “hazira.” Aside: It is a dish made by frying flour with fat and then adding a little water and letting it boil.

144 – Ibn Jurayj (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated the hadith mentioned in the previous one, saying: "When you perform ablution, give water to your mouth."
