SECTION ON PRAYER · 16 – SWEEPING THE MOSQUE

461 – From Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him): The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The rewards of my community were presented to me, even to the extent of the dust and dirt a person removes from the mosque. The sins of my community were also presented to me. I did not see any sin greater than that of a person who learns a surah or a verse (āya) and then forgets it.” [315] This noble hadith informs us of the great reward for keeping places of worship clean, and of the gravity of the sin of forgetting the Qur’an after having learned it due to negligence.
