**Article One**
This section details the virtues and benefits of treating all people with kindness, acting generously, and speaking with a gentle tongue, supported by honorable hadith.
Noble one, know that those learned in propriety have said:
The Most Exalted Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed his community and companions on the ways to live harmoniously and gently with compassion, conveying their virtues and benefits. Indeed, in some of his honorable hadith, he has stated: “Allah, the All-Merciful, shows mercy to those who are merciful. Have mercy upon those on earth, so that your Lord may have mercy upon you.” [202] And he said: "Be gentle with those younger than you, so that those older than you will be gentle with you." And he said: “It behooves the believers to advise one another in goodness and counsel each other with kindness. To show compassion for one another and assist them. To share their sorrows and ease their distress as brothers. Just as when a member of the body is afflicted, all parts of the body feel the same pain until that afflicted limb is healed. The affliction of one limb affects the entire body.” [203]
And he said: “The believers are brothers to one another.” [204] And he said: "Scholars are like a single soul." And he said: “Give to one another, so that you may show affection for one another.” [205] And he said: “The most virtuous of people is the one who benefits others.” [206] Therefore, the esteemed companions, and those who followed them (the *tabi’in*), and Islamic scholars consistently assisted one another and benefited each other. Perhaps they showed mercy to the People of the Book (Christians and Jews) and all created beings and hastened to aid them.
And he said: “The devotees of my community will not enter Paradise solely through much prayer and fasting. Rather, they will enter through compassion towards those who exist, with purity of heart [freedom from ill intentions toward anyone] and generosity.” [207] And that Noble One (peace and blessings be upon him) would gently stroke the heads of orphans, show kindness to them, and speak with a smile. And he said: “O Mu’az! Be like a compassionate father to orphaned children. And know for certain that you will reap what you sow.” [208] And he said: "Whoever brings joy to a Muslim brother or sister in the world, the All-Merciful One will bring joy to him/her both in this world and in the Hereafter. Whoever relieves a Muslim brother or sister from one of the hardships of this world, the All-Merciful One will relieve him/her from hardships on the Day of Resurrection.” [209] And he said: “If a servant of Allah assists his believing brothers and sisters, then Allah will assist him.” [210] And he said: "For one who honors his parents and maintains family ties, two gates of Paradise are opened." [211] And he said: “Allah will have mercy on the one who helps his children.” [212] Meaning that parents do not command their children to do something that would lead them to disobedience.
And he said: "The most virtuous deed is to gladden the heart of a believer." [213] And he said: “Spending even a single dirham for the benefit of one’s family members, in my view, is more beautiful than spending a thousand dirhams in the path of Allah. And if someone obeys his parents for a single day, in my view, it is better than a thousand years of worship.” And he said: “Spending even an hour with one's family is, in my view, more virtuous than secluding oneself in a mosque.” [214] And he said: "A believer who is perfect in faith is one whose character is good and whose dealings are kind with his family." [214] And he said: “Approach women with kindness and treat them gently [370/a]. For they do not have independence, their freedom is dependent upon you, and they are a trust of Allah in your care.” [215] And he said: "The expiation for striking a slave is to set him free." [216] And he said: “He who controls his tongue, his faults will be concealed; and he who masters his anger, his sins will be forgiven.” [217] And he said: “Be generous and kind with your female and male servants, and speak gently with them. Even if they commit seventy errors in a day, forgive them. Feed them from what you eat, clothe them with what you wear, and treat them as you would your own children. Do not burden them beyond their strength [219], for they too are flesh, bone, and blood. They are like yourselves. Know that Allah, the Creator of the worlds, is the adversary of those who oppress them.”
And he said: “Whoever obeys his parents, maintains family ties, speaks gently to his family members and servants, shows generosity to his religious brethren, and takes care of the needs of his household, then his character is complete." And he said: "Sit with the pious, converse with scholars, engage in discourse with those wise in knowledge, and be intimate with the poor.”
And he said: “The words of two friends are a trust between them. It is not permissible for one to reveal to others the secret words of the other, nor is it proper to disclose his hidden secrets to the public.” [220] And he said: "A believer's relationship with another believer is like that of a soul and body." [221] And he said: “The sight of a believer upon another believer is an act of worship. A smile for him/her is expiation for sins.” [222] And he said: “To seek the pleasure of the All-Merciful One, gladden the heart of a believer." [223] And he said: "Whoever believes in Allah and the Day of Judgment, let him treat his neighbor well, honor his guest, and either speak good or remain silent.” [224] And he said: “O Abu Huraira! Let your desire…
Let the soul accept [the guidance], O True One! Do not distress the people. Whoever distresses you, know him to be from God.
