Seventh Point

It declares that entrusting and surrender are the most important and necessary things in all of a person’s affairs.

O esteemed one! Know that the friends of Allah have said: To truly understand entrusting and surrender, two primary elements must be considered, so that everything may find its proper place with ease.

Firstly, you must know with certainty that it is not sufficient or appropriate to merely take precautions and make choices in performing a task. Knowing all aspects of something belongs only to the Absolute Disposer [391], who knows all things in their entirety, knowing the inner and outer nature of everything, its present state and its outcome, how it will be, what will spoil it, destroy it, benefit it, or do it good. Otherwise, a servant cannot be safe from choosing actions that lead to evil and ruin instead of goodness and benefit.

Just as if a peasant were given money and told, "Separate the valuable ones from the inferior ones," he would not be able to make this distinction. Even if someone from the marketplace, a merchant, were to separate the coins, his distribution could not be trusted. Only by taking them to a goldsmith who knows the qualities of gold and silver and receiving a satisfactory answer would those who made the offer find peace of heart.

Complete knowledge encompassing every aspect of everything belongs only to Allah, Lord of the Worlds. Therefore, no being other than Allah is worthy of taking precautions or making choices. Thus, Allah has said in the Clear Discernment: “Your Lord creates whatever He wills and chooses. They have no power of choice.” (The Story, 28/68)

It is related that to one of the prophets, a command came from Allah saying, "Ask! Whatever you desire shall be given." He, upon receiving this decree, said, “Would an all-knowing person say to someone completely ignorant, ‘Ask! Whatever you desire shall be given’? How can I know what is good for me and what is not, so that I may ask? Rather, prepare and choose what is good and beneficial for me, so that I may find safety.”

Secondly, if someone were to say to you, “I will arrange all your affairs and put them in order, provide for all your needs. Leave all your affairs to me and look to enjoying yourself in this world,” and if that person were the most knowledgeable, wisest, strongest, most merciful, most compassionate, and most just in your eyes, would you not consider it a great blessing and favor? Would you not thank him and praise him beautifully?

Again, if this wise person prepared for you a potion whose benefit or harm you did not know, would you not trust him without hesitation, thinking of neither its benefits nor its harms? Because you know that he has good intentions towards you and always prefers what is most beneficial for you, and you entrust all your affairs to him and surrender. After he takes charge of all your affairs, whatever he does, you would consider everything he does to be correct. So why have you not entrusted your affairs to the Lord of the worlds who created all existence? Why do you not show entrusting and acceptance to Allah?

For it is He who has created and shaped the entire world and humankind. It is He who creates nights and days and transforms the hearts of people from state to state. It is He who distributes rain, sustenance, thoughts, and dispositions. It is He who arranges and chooses the affairs of all creatures in the heavens and on earth. As Allah proclaims to His servants in the verse: “Allah governs everything that happens in the heavens and on earth.” (Prostration, 32/5)

Therefore, Allah, being the most knowing of those who know, the strongest of those who are strong, the most merciful of those who are merciful, the richest of those who are rich, the wisest of those who rule, and the most faithful of those who are truthful, why should entrusting yourself to Him and surrendering to Him be a joy? Why do you not leave all your affairs to Him so that He may choose and arrange what your knowledge cannot reach and your understanding cannot grasp with His subtle knowledge? Thus, your heart will be relieved of a heavy burden and you will go to the assembly of intimacy with joy and peace. If you entrust all your affairs to Allah and surrender to His decree, if you are content with Him regarding whatever He chooses – however it manifests itself – if you know that what He has decreed for you is purely goodness and salvation, then you will make helplessness and bewilderment capital for your happiness and find heart tranquility and peace of mind through Allah’s guidance and training.

Verse

1-See how the nurse tends to the child,

First placing him on a soft bed.

2-Sometimes she draws him close, yearningly,

Sometimes she lets him play freely.

3-Sometimes she makes it difficult, sometimes easy,

Sometimes she praises, sometimes rebukes.

4-Sometimes she kisses his radiant face,

Sometimes she praises and removes his burden.

5-But when a stranger looks at him,

He is overcome with anger and sighs.

6-“She is not affectionate,” he says to the nurse,

"The child is unhappy, despite being blessed."

7-“What do you know that the nurse does not know?

The condition of the work lies in this very thing.”

8-The servant has made a condition for me,

He will fulfill all my affairs with conditions.

9-He must give sustenance, sometimes deprivation, sometimes victory.

10-Sometimes he places a jeweled crown on his head,

Sometimes he leaves him needy and destitute.

11-May you be pleased with His decree,

And may you not question the judge.

12-So that you may find proof of His decree,

How foolish is he who knows this!

13-Every drop from his mouth is poison,

Every drop of kindness is his wrath.

14-Everything that comes from affliction or well-being,

Is pure goodness and all harm is a consequence.

15-He who brings the world into being with “Be! And it is,”

When he creates humankind, how can it be wrong?

16-There is no good or evil in the realm of understanding,

The titles of good and evil belong to you and to Him.

17-When He created the horizons,

He did not create anything without purpose.

18-May this one be destroyed, and that one preserved!

That one’s sustenance is his poison, and that one’s destruction.

(Translation of the Verse)

Here's a translation of the provided text, aiming for faithfulness and preserving meaning within a classical Islamic/Sufi context:

Sometimes He binds it in a cradle, sometimes embraces it upon his lap.

Sometimes He strikes with force, sometimes caresses and soothes; at times He repels, at times He hurls.

Sometimes He kisses its cheek with tenderness, sometimes strokes it, endures His own chastisement.

If a stranger witnesses this state, he becomes angered toward the nursemaid, sighs in distress.

He says to her, "You are not compassionate," and the poor child does not attain his desire.

How can you know what the nursemaid truly knows? She acts according to necessity, with due method.

Thus, the Creator also releases the servant, provided he fulfills his obligation.

He gives whatever provision is destined; sometimes withholding, at other times granting wishes and desires.

Sometimes He places a crown of jewels upon its head, sometimes rendering it needy for a single grain.

Either be content with God’s decree, or rush in anger to the court of the Judge!

May He deliver you from His decree; the foolish one deems it otherwise.

Consider what God gives as antidote to poison; know that His chastisement is surely grace and beneficence.

Every affliction and ease that occurs—goodness is the foundation, and evil is transient.

He who created the world with "Be!," how could He do harm to humankind?

There is no evil or good in the world; evil and good are merely designations of you and me.

When the Exalted God created the horizons, He did not create evil.

Death is destruction for some, yet life itself for others. Poison is sustenance for some, death for others.
