Then… let the people go for a while. Turn away from the great sin you committed. Earn and eat what is lawful. Do not rely on your actions; see Allah’s grace.
Do not forget the favor Allah has bestowed upon you. If you forget His favor, you will have strayed into shirk (associating partners with Him). It may not be as great as the first time, but it is still shirk. It will grow over time, from subtle to overt and blatant shirk. Repent of this state too, and remove this degree of shirk. Trust in your profit and loss (your livelihood), but see the One who gives you strength. Connect with Him Who makes these tasks easy for you and creates the means. He will grant you success in every good deed, because He leads to all goodness, and provision is in His hands.
Continue to trust in Him, know that your sustenance comes from Him; He sends it to you through various ways. Sometimes He sends you among people, but this may be a trial or a form of spiritual discipline for you. Be very careful in such circumstances. At other times, He sends your provision as a reward, without showing you the means, so you return to Him with ease and humility. You witness His power with reverence. In these moments, the veil is lifted, and you see His grace. Allah grants you, more than a doctor, someone who understands your temperament through His favor and generosity. By doing this, He protects you from bad character traits, prevents inclination towards others, and ultimately delights your heart with beautiful, great blessings.
When all impure desires, passions, what is sought, what is beloved – everything leaves your heart, and nothing remains but His will, then He will bestow grace abundantly.
The provision destined for you, you must receive it; no one else can touch it… because sustenance is not decreed for anyone other than you. To calm your desires, He bestows a favor upon you, fulfilling your needs with it. And you know the One who sent these things to you, you understand. You realize that the Giver of these blessings is Allah, and you follow the path of gratitude… thus, your knowledge increases, your wisdom grows. Allah protects you from the burdens of people and enables you to purify your soul from anything other than Him.
Then your heart illuminates, your ability to understand true knowledge increases. Your inner eye opens, your heart becomes illuminated. Your nearness to Allah progresses, and you become completely part of that realm.
When you reach a point where you can preserve the secrets of this great spiritual knowledge, you will know when and at what time sustenance will come to you. This state is given to you through the grace and generosity of Allah. You are brought to this state to honor His glory. Ultimately, all of this is a favor from Allah. Allah the Exalted says in this regard:
“We made among them leaders guiding by their knowledge, because they were committed to Our verses.” (Surah Luqman, 31:24)
“For those who strive in our path, We will open up ways.” (Surah Ankabut, 29:69)
“Have taqwa of Allah; He will teach you…” (Surah Baqarah, 2:282)
After reaching these states, the manifestation of the Divine attributes appears. You begin to perform that task with a clear command. There is no doubt in this command; it stands before you like the sun. This command is given to you so that it is sweeter than any sweetness and more beautiful than any beauty… In responding to the inspiration you receive for performing this duty, there is no comparison. This inspiration melts away the impurities of your soul. Allah the Exalted has said in some books He sent down to His prophets:
“O Adam’s son, I am Allah, besides whom there is no god; only I exist. Whatever I decree happens. Obey Me so that I may make you like Me; when you say ‘Be,’ it will be.”
These are not things to be astonished at. The prophets have done this many times. Some of the saints have also experienced similar states. Sometimes, this is given as a gift by Allah (cc) through the subtle realms.
