Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) related:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) relieved himself. Omar ibn al-Khattab stood behind him with a container of water. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) said, “What is this, O Omar?” Omar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "It is water for you to purify yourself with." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) said, “I was not commanded to purify myself with water after every minor impurity. If I were to do so, it would become a practice for my community.” [61]
