PURIFICATION SECTION · 135 – THE PERMISSION FOR WOMEN TO PRAY IN THEIR UNDERGARMENTS
369 – From Maymūna (may Allah be pleased with her): The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was praying while he had a woolen cloak on his back. Part of the cloak was over one of his family members. At the same time, the woman was menstruating. The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) continued to pray while it was on her, she said. [258]
EXPLANATION
Mirt: It is a garment made of wool, worn over other clothes, which we call a woolen cloak. Ours are short. The one worn by the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) was long, extending from head to toe, like a jubba. Women also wore it, like a farājah. This noble hadith is evidence that it is permissible to pray in a room where a menstruating woman is lying.
370 – From ʿĀʾisha (may Allah be pleased with her): While I was menstruating, I would be with the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) would pray at night. Yet, I had a cloak of mine on me. Part of the cloak was also on him, she said. [259]
