THE CHAPTER ON FASTING · 19 – ON THE TIME OF IFTAR FOR A FASTER
From Asim ibn Amr, who transmitted from his father:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, increased the time of night coming from the east and day going to the east, and said, “The fasting person breaks his fast when the sun sets.”
It is narrated by Abdullah ibn Abi Aufa (may Allah be pleased with him) that:
We were on a journey with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), who was fasting. When the sun set, he said, “O Bilal, prepare us some bulamaç.”
Bilal said, "Would you not rest, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)?"
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Prepare us some bulamaç.”
Bilal said, “There is still daylight remaining, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).”
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Prepare us some bulamaç.”
Bilal went down and prepared the bulamaç. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) drank it, then pointed his finger towards the east and said, "Whenever you see the night coming from this direction, those who are fasting may break their fast."
