Divorce – Section 38 – A man returning to his divorced wife
Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) related:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) divorced Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her) with one divorce, then returned to her. [221]
COMMENTARY
Revocable Divorce (Talak al-Rija’i): It is divorcing a woman with one divorce and then regretting it within the waiting period and returning to her. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) had divorced Hafsa with one divorce. Revelation was sent to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him), stating that she spent nights in prayer and days fasting, and that he should not separate from her; for she was his wife in Paradise. Thus, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) returned to her.
