Hakim ibn Muawiya al-Kushayri, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated from his father:

He said: I asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, "O Messenger of Allah, what is the right of a wife over her husband?" The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “You should provide for her from what you eat, and clothe her when you clothe yourself. Do not strike her in the face, do not say ‘you are ugly,’ and do not abandon her except in the house.” Abu Dawud says: "And *la tuqabbih* means 'May Allah make you ugly.'"

From Behz bin Hakim; my father reported to me, who heard it from his grandfather, who said:

I asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, “O Messenger of Allah, what should we do with our women and what should we refrain from?” The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, replied, "Be close to them as you are to your fields (family), nourish them as you nourish yourself, when you clothe yourself, provide for them clothing, and do not say anything ugly to their faces, and do not tattoo.”

Abu Dawud says: Shu'ba narrated. “You nourish them as you nourish yourself, and you clothe them as you clothe yourself,” [141]

EXPLANATION

The man should feed the woman what he eats, dress her in clothing of the same quality that he wears, have her sit where he sits, not say anything ugly to her face, and not separate from her bed without necessity.

Behz ibn Hakim, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated from his father, who narrated from his grandfather, Muawiya al-Kushayri:

I asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, “What are you commanding me regarding my women?”

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Give them what you eat, clothe them in what you wear, do not strike them, and do not say ‘You are ugly’ to them.”
