2008 – It is narrated from ʿĀʾisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) stayed for a while at Muhassab to make it easier for him to depart (for Madinah). Staying there is not sunnah (sunnah: the normative practice of the Prophet). Whoever wishes to stay there may do so, and whoever does not wish to, may not. [53]
EXPLANATION
Taḥṣīb: To stay for a while at the place mentioned when descending from Mina towards the direction of Keda.
2009 – It is narrated from Abū Rāfiʿ (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) did not command me to camp there. However, I had set up the tent there, so he stayed there. Musaddad says: Abū Rāfiʿ was responsible for safeguarding the Messenger of God’s (peace and blessings be upon him) belongings. Among the narrators, ʿUthmān added the statement: “He had not commanded me to camp at Abṭaḥ.” [54]
2010 – It is narrated from Usāma ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: During the Farewell Pilgrimage, I said to the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him), “O Messenger of Allah, where will you stay tomorrow (in Mecca)?” The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “(My uncle Abū Ṭālib’s son) ʿAqīl, did he leave us any house?” Then he said, “We will camp in the valley of Banū Kināna (Muhassab), where Quraysh swore to remain firm in kufr (kufr: disbelief) against us.” Banū Kināna had pledged to Quraysh in that valley not to give their daughters in marriage to anyone from Banū Hāshim, nor to take wives from them, nor to engage in trade with them, nor to protect them. Al-Zuhrī said: “Ḥayf means valley.” [55]
2011 – It is narrated from Abū Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him): When the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) decided to depart from Mina, he said, “We will camp tomorrow.” In this narration, the narrator mentioned something similar to the previous hadith, but did not mention the beginning or the phrase “Ḥayf means valley.” [56]
2012 – It is narrated from Nāfiʿ (may Allah be pleased with him): Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say: “He would sleep lightly at Bathāʾ, then enter Mecca, and the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do likewise.” [57]
2013 – Nāfiʿ narrated from Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with him) that: The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the ẓuhr, ʿaṣr, maghrib, and ʿishāʾ prayers at Bathāʾ. Then he slept lightly there, and then entered Mecca. Ibn ʿUmar used to do likewise. [58]
