Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated:

Amr bin Uqays had debts of interest from the days of ignorance. He did not consider it acceptable to become Muslim until he settled them. When the battle of Uhud arrived, he asked, “Where are my maternal uncles?” They said, "They are at Uhud." He then asked, "Where is so-and-so?" They said, "He is at Uhud.” He asked, "Where is so-and-so?" They said, "He is at Uhud.” He put on his armor, mounted his riding animal, and proceeded towards them. When the Muslims saw him, they said to him, “O Amr, keep away from us.” He replied, “I have become Muslim.” He fought until he was wounded. He was brought to his family as an invalid. Sa’d bin Mu'adh came to him and said to his sister, "Ask him whether he fought for the sake of loyalty to his people, or out of anger towards the Quraysh, or out of anger towards them for the sake of Allah." Amr replied, “I fought against them for the sake of my anger towards them due to the pleasure of Allah and His Messenger (peace be upon him).” He died without having performed a single prayer for the sake of Allah and entered Paradise.
