From Abdurrahman bin Numan bin Mabed bin Hawza, from his father, and from his grandfather: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded the use of kohl (surma) that has been scented with musk, and forbade the fasting person from it.

Abu Dawud said: Yahya bin Ma’in told me that this hadith concerning surma is anomalous.

EXPLANATION: It is stated that the fasting person's use of surma is not problematic, but rather the scenting of it with musk is what is problematic.

Ubayd Allah ibn Abi Bakr ibn Anas reported from Anas ibn Malik that he used kohl while fasting.

It has been narrated on the authority of A’mesh (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I have not seen anyone among our companions dislike the use of kohl by a fasting person. Ibrahim (peace be upon him) permitted the use of antimony for a fasting person.
