2267 – From ʿĀʾisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she said: The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me. Musaddad and Ibn al-Sarh narrated (this hadith from ʿĀʾisha): The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me one day in a joyful state. ʿUthmān also narrated this hadith from ʿĀʾisha as follows: The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) came, his joy reflected in the features of his face. The remainder of the hadith was narrated by these transmitters as follows: The Prophet said: O ʿĀʾisha, do you not know? Mujazziz al-Mudlijī saw Zayd and his son Usāma, and they had a velvet cloth over them, covering their heads, while their feet were exposed. Mujazziz said, "These feet are from one another (i.e., they are related)." Abū Dāwūd says: Zayd was white-skinned, while Usāma was dark-skinned.
2268 – It was narrated from Ibn Shihāb with the same chain of transmission and the same meaning. (ʿĀʾisha, may Allah be pleased with her, said: He entered upon me in joy, the features of his face were radiant.) Abū Dāwūd says: Ibn ʿUyaynah did not memorize the phrase "the features of his face"; the phrase "the features of his face" is an addition by Ibn ʿUyaynah. He did not hear this phrase from al-Zuhrī. He heard the phrase "the features of his face" from someone other than al-Zuhrī. The word "asārīr" is found in the hadiths narrated by al-Layth and others. Abū Dāwūd says: I heard Aḥmad ibn Ṣāliḥ say: Usāma was as black as pitch, and Zayd was as white as cotton. [211]
