SACRIFICE CHAPTER · 8 – CAN A SHEEP BE SACRIFICED ON BEHALF OF A COMMUNITY?
Jabir ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated:
I witnessed the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) performing the sacrifice along with his companions. After he finished his sermon, he descended from the pulpit. A ram was brought to him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) slaughtered it himself with his own hand. And he said: “In the name of Allah, Allah is Most Great, this is a sacrifice on behalf of me and those among my community who do not slaughter sacrifices.” [539]
Note: Refer to hadith number 2792 for an explanation of this hadith. This honorable hadith is evidence that it is sunnah for the owner of the sacrifice to slaughter it himself.
