SECTION ON ZAKAT · 22 – Can zakat be transferred from one town to another?

From Ibrahim, son of Ata’, a freedman of Imran ibn Husayn, from his father; Ziyad or some governors sent Imran ibn Husayn to collect zakat. Upon his return, it was asked him, “Where is the wealth?” Imran said, "Did you send me for the wealth? We collected the zakat from the places we used to collect it in the time of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him. And we left it in the places where we left it in the time of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him." [473]
