JIHAD SECTION · 67 – REWARDING THE WINNER IN A COMPETITION
Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Racing (for reward) is only permissible in camel, horse, and archery contests.”
Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ raced against a tamed horse and also raced between untamed horses. The starting point of the race with the tamed horse was at Hayfa, and its ending point was at Seniyyet al-Wida’. The starting point of the race between the untamed horses was at Seniyye, and its ending point was at the mosque of Banu Zureik. Ibn Umar also participated in that competition.
According to the narration of Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him):
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) would train horses and participate in races with them.
From Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with him: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings upon him, appointed rewards for horses in racing and preferred horses that had completed five years for the longest distances.
