Zakat Section · 17 – Fitr Sadaqah
It is narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) declared: “The fitra sadaqa [obligatory charity] has purified the orators from unnecessary speech, reviling, and cleansed it for the poor – as food.” He said: “If one performs it before the ‘Eid prayer, it is an accepted zakat. If one performs it after the prayer, it is a sadaqa among sadakas [charitable acts].”
