Section AV · 4 – Hadiths About a Fondness for Falconry
A hadith has been narrated on the authority of Hadrat 'Abdullah ibn 'Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him and grant him peace, from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him:
It is said that Sufyan al-Thawri stated that he knows this narration comes only from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “He who dwells in the desert acts rudely; he who pursues game falls into heedlessness; and he who goes to the Sultan’s court falls into tribulation (in his religion).” [572]
**Explanation:**
This hadith is strange. One who lives in the desert cannot be disciplined or observe proper manners. Pursuing game leads a person to heedlessness. Going to and from the Sultan's court cools one down in his religion.
Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated:
A narrator, Musaddad, relates this hadith from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in the following words: “He who seeks nearness to a ruler falls into fitnah (discord/trial) in his religion.” This narration contains the additional statement: “Indeed, a servant only increases his distance from Allah by increasing his seeking of closeness to the ruler.”
COMMENTARY:
Those who frequent the sultan’s court rely on the sultan. Their trust in Allah diminishes.
Rasûlullah sallallahu aleyhi ve sellem şöyle buyurdu: "Kim ki av okunu atar ve onu üç gün sonra, okun üzerinde ele geçirirse – kokuşmamış olması şartıyla – onu yiyebilir."
“You recited a blessing upon your dog,” He said. [567]
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Recite a blessing upon what you hunt with your trained dog, and if you can reach the prey hunted by an untrained, novice dog, then eat it.” [568]
Ibn al-Harb transmitted the following additional narration: “Eat whatever is killed by a trained dog and your hand, whether cut or uncut.” [569]
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, replied: “Wash it and eat from within it.” [570]
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “A piece taken from an animal while it is alive is like the meat of a dead animal that has died naturally.” [571]
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “He who dwells in the desert acts rudely. He who pursues game falls into carelessness. He who goes to the Sultan’s court falls into religious discord.” [572]
