Marriage Section · 43 – Beating Women
Abu Hurrah ar-Raqashi, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated from his uncle that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "If you fear discord from your wives, then leave them alone in their beds." Hammad says: Its meaning is to withhold intercourse from them.
Iyas ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) said, “Do not beat the female servants of Allah.” Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) and said, "Women are impertinent towards their husbands." (Thereupon, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) permitted them to be beaten.)
Many women came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him), complaining about their husbands. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) said, “I swear by Allah! Many women from the family of Muhammad circulate, complaining about their husbands. Those who beat [their wives] are not among your best.”

EXPLANATION:
It is permissible for a man to beat his wife for discipline without causing her injury, but it is better to be patient with their actions. The man fulfills the needs of his wife while adhering to all conditions and acting justly. If the woman acts spoiled, the man may beat her to establish authority. But as can be understood from the hadith, those who make it a habit to beat their wives are not considered good people.
‘Umar ibn al-Khabbab, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings upon him, said: "One should not be questioned about why he beats his wife."
