JIHAD SECTION · 81 – How should one pray when entering a vehicle?

Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) is reported to have said: I witnessed Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). An animal was brought for him to mount. When he placed his foot upon it, he said, “Bismillah.” And when he sat upon its back, he said, "Alhamdulillah." Then he said, "I purify [i.e., glorify] Allah who has made this obedient to our command. Were it not for His obedience, we would not be able to manage it. Indeed, we shall return to our Lord."
Then he said, “Alhamdulillah” three times, and “Allah is the Most Exalted” three times. Then he said, "O Allah, I purify You. I have wronged myself. Grant me forgiveness, for indeed sins are not forgiven except by You.” Then he laughed. It was said to him, "O Commander of the Believers, what made you laugh?" He replied: “I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) doing as I did, then laughing. I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, what caused your laughter?’ The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) said: 'My Lord is pleased with His servant when he says, "O my Lord, forgive my sin," knowing that he knows that sins are not forgiven except by Me.’”
