According to the narration of Abdur-Rahman ibn Sa’id al-Ansarī, may Allah be pleased with him: *Ariyya* is when one lends a date palm tree to another. Or *ariyya* is when someone sets aside one or two date palm trees from his own property (garden) for eating and sells them as dried dates.
COMMENTARY
It is understood from this honorable hadith that *ariyya* refers to dates set aside in the garden for consumption.

According to the narration of Ibn Ishaq, may Allah be pleased with him, he said:
'Ara’ya (a practice) is when someone gifts palm trees (their fruits) to another person, and the one to whom they are gifted finds it burdensome to care for those trees, so he exchanges the dates from them for an estimated equivalent amount.
