According to the narration of Abu Lubayd, he said:

He was in the company of Abdurrahman ibn Samura in Kaba. People acquired spoils and plundered them. Then Abdurrahman ibn Samura addressed them, saying: “I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbidding plunder. Return what you have taken.”

He distributed the food amongst them (in a proper manner).

Abdullah ibn Abi Aufa (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated:

I said to someone from the companions, “Did you used to set aside a fifth [of food] from among your sustenance during the era of prosperity?” He said, "On the day of Khaybar, we obtained provisions. A person would come and take what sufficed him, then return.”

It is narrated from a person of the Ansar that he said:

We accompanied the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on an expedition when severe need and scarcity afflicted the people. They came upon a flock of sheep and plundered it. Our pots were boiling. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ walked, leaning on his bow, and overturned our pots. Then he continued to spill the meat onto the ground. After that, he said: “To rush for spoils of war before distribution is more unlawful than eating a dead animal.”

Hennat doubted or said, "A dead animal is more lawful than rushing."

EXPLANATION:

Just as the meat of an animal that dies without being slaughtered is forbidden, taking from the spoils of war before distribution is also forbidden.
