Divorce Section · 9 – Divorcing a Woman with Humor
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) said: “There are three things wherein truth is truth, and jesting is also truth: marriage, divorce, and reconciliation [with a divorced wife].” [177]
EXPLANATION:
Just as the divorce pronounced in jest by someone divorcing his wife takes effect, so too does the slave freed in jest by someone freeing his slave become truly free. And if one divorces his wife with one divorce and then says to her, “I have reconciled with you, you are my wife,” his reconciliation is valid.
