JIHAD SECTION · 26 – He who fights so that the word of Allah may be supreme.

A bedevī came to the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ, and said: "O Messenger of Allah, a person fights for fame, to be praised, to obtain spoils, and to display his heroism. What do you say about such a person?"
The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ, said: “Whoever fights for the sake of the Exalted Word [of Allah] to become elevated, then he is upon the path of the Mighty and Majestic Allah.”

Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: I heard a hadith from Abu Wail, and I liked it very much, then he mentioned the meaning of the hadith.

Abdullah ibn Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, relates:
I said to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, “O Messenger of Allah, inform me about striving (jihad) and expeditions.”
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “O Abdullah ibn Amr, if you strive while being patient and hoping for reward, Allah will resurrect you while being patient and hopeful for reward. If you strive for hypocrisy and to accumulate wealth, then Allah will resurrect you as a hypocrite and one who accumulates wealth. O Abdullah ibn Amr, whatever condition you are in when you strive or are killed, Allah will resurrect you in that same condition.”
