RITES OF HAJJ SECTION · 59 – DEPARTURE TO MINA
1911 – It is narrated from Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the ẓuhr (noon) prayer on the Day of Tarwiya at Mina, and the ṣubḥ (dawn) prayer on the Day of ʿArafa at Mina. [630]
1912 – It is narrated from ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Rufayʾ (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I asked Anas ibn Mālik, "Tell me whatever you know from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): Where did he perform the ẓuhr (noon) prayer on the Day of Tarwiya?" He said, "He performed it at Mina." I asked, "Where did he perform the ʿaṣr (afternoon) prayer on the Day of Nafr (departure)?" He said, "He performed it at al-Abṭaḥ." Then he said to me, "Do as the leaders do." [631]
EXPLANATION
Yawm al-Nafr: This refers to the third day of the festival (ʿĪd). It is called so because it is the day of return to Mecca. Al-Abṭaḥ: This is a plain between Mina and Mecca. It is sunnah to stay there for a short while when descending to Mecca.
