It is narrated from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him:

A man pursued another who owed him ten dirhams and said, “I will not leave you until you pay me my debt or bring someone to take your debt upon themselves.”

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, guaranteed the man’s debt. The man took the promised amount from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and brought it. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, then asked him, “From where did you obtain this gold?” He said, “I extracted it from ore.” The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “We have no need for this; there is no good in it.” Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, paid the man’s debt. [172]

EXPLANATION:

In reality, ore is permissible. Gold and silver are also minerals. The reason the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said there was no good in this gold is that the gold brought by this man was mixed with other minerals and had not been purified.
