Oaths and Vows Section
Oaths are the plural of oath, meaning multiple oaths. In reality, an oath is given with the right hand.
Among the Arabs, when swearing an oath about something, they would grasp each other’s hands with their right hands. For this reason, this name was given [to oaths]. There are three types of oaths. An oath concerning events that have already occurred; if it is made falsely, it is called a "Ghamus Oath." If one swears, “I will do such and such,” or “I will not do such and such,” because it is conditional, this oath is called a "Mu'aqidah Oath." Oaths uttered randomly, like "By Allah, so and so," or "By Allah, such and such," and if they do not come to pass as one believed them to be, are called “Lagw Oaths.” A Ghamus Oath cannot be expiated. Expiation is not required for a Lagw Oath. One repents and seeks forgiveness; if a Mu'aqidah Oath is broken, expiation is required.
Nuzur: Is the plural of Nazar. Nazar means to make something obligatory upon oneself that was not originally obligatory due to an event.
