-3. VOLUME – · 71 – On which day is the sermon delivered in Mina?
It is narrated on the authority of two men from Banu Bakr that they said:
We saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ delivering a sermon on the middle days of Tashriq. We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ by his camel, and it was the sermon which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ delivered at Mina.
Sarra bint Nebhan, who was the mistress of a house (formerly belonging to) in the pre-Islamic period (of idols), said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, delivered a sermon to us on the day of heads, and he said, “What is this day?” We replied, "Allah and His Messenger know."
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Is this not the middle of the days of Tashriq?”
Abu Dawud says: The uncle of Abu Hurrah ar-Raqasi also related it in exactly the same way: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, delivered a sermon on the middle of the days of Tashriq.
EXPLANATION
Yewmi ru’us: The day of heads is the third day of Eid, which is the second day of the days of Tashriq. The reason this day is called “ru'us” is that the Arabs would eat the head of the sacrificial animals on that day; hence, it was named accordingly.
