JIHAD EPISODE · 116 – AMBUSH UNITS
Bara (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ appointed Abdullah ibn Jubayr as the commander of the archers during the battle of Uhud. The archers were fifty men. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to them, “If you see birds seizing us [defeated and slain], do not leave your positions until I send a message to you.” He ﷺ also said, "Even if you saw us routing and crushing them, do not leave your positions until I send a message to you."
Bara said: The enemy of Allah was routed. By Allah, I saw women among the polytheists climbing mountains out of fear. Then, the companions of Abdullah ibn Jubayr said, "Hasten to the spoils! Your friends have overcome [the enemy]! What are you waiting for?"
Abdullah ibn Jubayr said, “Did you forget what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ told you?” They said, “We swear by Allah that we will go to the people and take our share of the spoils.” They went to them, but they were turned back [repulsed]. They returned defeated [in confusion].
