JIHAD SECTION · 32 – Fighting While Taking Service Fees
It is narrated from Abdullah bin Daylam that Ya’la bin Munya said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ mobilized (called for a military expedition).
Now, I was an elderly man and had no servant. I sought someone to go in my place for wages. He would also receive a share of the spoils of war.
I found a man, and as the departure approached, he came to me and said, “I do not know what sahim are (units of measurement), and how much will my share amount to? Either assign me something definite, whether it be a share from the spoils or not.” I then assigned him three dinars. When the spoils were distributed, I intended to give him his share, but I explained to him the situation of that man.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “He will not find in this campaign of his anything – neither material nor spiritual – other than those three dinars which he stipulated.”
