SECTION OF THE DEAD · 42 – The Dislike of Transferring a Dead Body from One Place to Another

Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated:
On the day of the battle of Uhud, we were carrying corpses for burial. The caller of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) came to us and said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings upon him) ordered us to bury the dead where they lay. So we returned the dead to their original places. [81]
**Annotation:**
The deceased should not be exhumed and transferred to another place unless there is a justification such as enemy invasion or flooding. The deceased may be transferred to be buried near righteous people before burial. Burying the martyrs of Uhud in their places was based on wisdom. It is permissible to transport them to distant places and bury them, provided that measures are taken to prevent decomposition, and it is ensured that they do not suffer distress during transportation.
