2827 – It is narrated from Abū Saʿīd (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I asked the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) about the offspring found in the womb of a slaughtered animal. He said: “If you wish, eat it.” The transmitter Musaddad narrated this hadith as follows: O Messenger of God, we slaughter a she-camel, and we slaughter cows and sheep, and we find offspring in their wombs. Should we eat it or discard it? The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “If you wish, eat it, for its slaughter is included in the slaughter of its mother.” [552]

EXPLANATION

This noble hadith is evidence that the offspring found in the womb of a slaughtered animal may be eaten without being slaughtered separately. However, Imām al-Aʿẓam (Abū Ḥanīfa) says: If the offspring found in the womb of a slaughtered animal comes out alive and is then slaughtered, it may be eaten; otherwise, it may not be eaten.
