SECTION ON MARRIAGE · 18 – THE DISLIKEDNESS OF PROPOSING TO A PROSPECTIVE BRIDE ALREADY PROPOSED TO BY ONE’S FELLOW BELIEVER
2080 – It is narrated from Abū Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “No man should propose to a prospective bride already proposed to by his fellow believer.” [103]
EXPLANATION
If your fellow believer (dīn brother) has proposed to a girl, and you know that he is proposing, do not propose to her unless he has received a negative response.
2081 – It is narrated from Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “None of you may propose to a prospective bride already proposed to by his fellow believer, nor may he transact a sale over his brother’s sale, unless his fellow believer gives him permission.” [104]
